I've never seen it for D1 before but it happens regularly with last minute (same day) bookings with domestic coach vs. first. Usually coach is Y and first is a discounted first fare, but I've seen it where it was only Y and F fare codes where this was the case as well. It's just whatever Delta's revenue management engine decides is best - even if it doesn't make sense to us..
