Even when disregarding the actual rules, I have never really heard of a high status passenger on any airline running into difficulties with cabin baggage, especially when boarding first with the Business Class / Elite passengers. I'm sure there are rare examples but as long as you're not doing anything silly, a DYKWIA often does the trick.
