I've searched the information online at www.alaskaair.com everywhere that I can find and it doesn't mention anything about being able to check three pieces, unless you are traveling within Alaska or to Guadalajara. It clearly states that anything above the two bag allowance will be charged as excess baggage. As well, it states that you will be charged for bags that weigh more than the allowed limit and again if you're bag is oversize. I believe Missy is right, they will charge for an bag that is over weight and then again if it is oversize. Where do you find information otherwise? Thanks.</font>

Excess Baggage Charges: ......... Excess baggage falls into two categories; extra pieces and oversize or overweight. If a piece of baggage falls into more than one category, only the greater of the two charges shall apply. Due to limited aircraft size, limited cargohold capacity, and restricted gross take-off weights (Substitute Service Flights series 2000/3000/4000/6000), excess baggage, or oversize baggage presented or transferred at departure time without a prearranged reservation for space may travel on a space-available basis.

The third piece of carry-on size as checked baggage might not be included in the COC but it is allowed as a free piece exemption - in SEA at least.
