H Cairns is definitely a step above, and the EL, while small, is quite nice and has good service.
The Hilton is closer to the action in Cairns, though both are walkable, and has nicer public areas and pool.
Actually, I was surprised that the Hilton had an exec lounge. Counters the Hilton system paradigm that any property having "Airport" or "Resort" in its name (or being near an airport or a resort location) can forgo having an exec lounge.
