It's not usual - I assume this new PNR is from the same airline that issued the ticket originally, and that you ticketed directly with the airline (not a TA)?

Reasons for a new PNR can be because the original was purged - this happens a few days after the last flight in that system unless a retention line is added. Can especially happen with tickets that have open segments.

If you still had live flights in the ticketing airline's original PNR then there shouldn't have been a need for a new booking, but who knows..?
