I remember now. I used that space for my headphones... the arch in the storage space and the ear cups sticking out. With those in there I had enough room to slide the ipad in. The document storage... that was packed with the duty free and inflight magazines. I suppose those could have been shifted to the overhead locker. It's not an ideal seat for storage. Much prefer the reverse herringbone.
