Agree with above. 5,5 hours is very sufficient. If there's some problem affecting all flights in and out of OAK/SFO, then it's likely going to affect your BA flight as well. Wouldn't recommend driving. LAX to OAK is at least 8 hours with stops. If all goes well, and you're super early, take BART into the city or Berkley for a couple of hours
