Then don't do it. I myself find that for me, as a victim of US speed limits, getting out on an autobahn and opening it up is refreshing, stimulating, and energizing after a flight from NY.

I don't know whether ozstamps should be annoyed by the above. Maybe it was intended as a constructive suggestion to actually help him to save money, altho the prices of good bicycles have skyrocketed in the past few years, and if the bike is lost or stolen, the whole deal will end up being the most expensive alternative.
