1. To save the output as an image you can (1) click the fullscreen button to remove the sidemenu, (2) disable the "show buttons" toggle under the settings menu, (3) put your browser in full screen mode (f11 in Chrome) and then take a screenshot. It's overcomplicated I know. I would love to have an "export as image"-button but unfortunately Google maps api doesn't allow a simple export option.

2. I can see how this change would be preferable for some, but I'm not sure that all users would like it better. I can't defend putting in the time it would take to implement it.
