I've haven't used AirBnB in Japan but I've met a couple of people involved in AirBnB bookings in Tokyo. The company they work for operates like a cross between a property manager and an advisory service for AirBnB owners. There are people who want to rent out their living spaces but are not comfortable/fluent in English, Chinese, etc. What this company does is manage the AirBnB listing for them. They give advice on how to present their listing and setting the ideal price for their area. It can also act as the "host", dealing with the customers directly. From my discussions with my acquaintances earlier this year, they have been doing pretty well. I heard they were expanding into Kyoto. However, with the new regulations, I not sure how they'll adapt.
