Rental car question - if CDW is included do I need to take other insurance?

Just booked an Alamo car for next week in Fairbanks Alaska. Oddly CDW seems to be included in the rate. IIRC I usually need to pay extra for that?

With an oz residence we usually need to take a lot of ins. Credit cards do not cover us as they do for a US driver. All we have is a credit card cover that protects us from high excess - ie. we do not need to take the ins that allows you to have a low deductible in case of any accident as credit card offers that one.

If CDW is free/included, do I really need to take other insurance?

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an option that, if purchased at an additional charge per day, eliminates responsibility for damage to or loss of an Alamo rental vehicle as long as terms of the rental agreement have not been violated.

Collision Damage Waiver is NOT insurance.

There are several types of CDW options:

Waiver Saver 500 covers up to $500 damage or loss.

Waiver Saver 3000 covers up to $3000 damage or loss.

MaxiWaiver Saver covers any damage to or loss of the rental vehicle.
Prices vary by state and are not offered in all locations due to state law limitations or prohibitions.

If a credit card is supplied to cover the Collision Damage Waiver costs, Alamo will authorize a deposit at the time of rental. Protection applies so long as terms of the rental agreement have not been violated.

For Latin America & Caribbean destinations, inclusive rates will include CDW and Theft Protection (where available) with a deductible varying from $500 - $1500 USD.

Please refer to the Rental Agreement, rental jacket, and any underlying policies for the full terms and conditions.
