I guess one way to get around it it's to book a single occupancy standard room on points and then email to arrange the Diamond upgrade, possibly paying a bit to guarantee the u/g in advance.
Still have not seen a response- the T&C might not be specific on double occupancy on an award, but the Plat benefits are specific that an additional guest is a benefit, so would seem to not be in compliance.
