Stayed here last week for a business trip. Only spent a short time there (was only in Australia for about 30 hours) but have nothing but high praise for this hotel. I got there around 8am (flew in on JL 771 from NRT) and no room was ready (not surprising) but they had no problem letting me just hang out in the lobby to do work and they put my stuff in the storage locker after offering me a shower in the gym. Eventually were able to get me in a room by 1030am which is completely reasonable for a hotel that likely had very high occupancy.
Room itself had an almost beach feel to it with whitewashed walls and with basic offerings (desk, bed, TV, dresser). Bed was comfortable and shower was nice. But what really made this hotel stand out was the staff / service. The concierge and the bell staff set a high bar for service. They were incredibly friendly every time I came and left, they gave me a nice list of brew pubs to check out, and just were extremely pleasant. No lounge but breakfast offered to Plat in the restaurant - though can't comment, left for a meeting before breakfast on my one morning there.
For some reason I already had a negative impression of this property but it was a completely ill-informed view. No it is not the Park Hyatt. No it is not going to be a super luxurious hotel. But the location can't be beat (IMO, I love The Rocks), the staff is incredibly friendly, and the overall ambience of the hotel is spectacular. I am planning to stay here again in 2019 when my fiance and I take our long planned trip to Australia.
