I was trying to think of a way in which to get a ticket for a trip to Mexico next December and upgrade before the mile increase takes affect on the 7th. Unfortunately we are still not 331 days out from my departure date before the the new upgrade chart takes effect... so here is my thinking....

Can I buy a ticket, upgrade using 10000 miles,then change the date when it comes into the 331 day window, while not having to use an additional 10000 miles to keep the upgrade? I know I will have to pay a change fee ( is it $50 or $100?)
