I would have awaken the snorer. Definitely without making physical contact, such as talking/yelling in their ear. If the snoring prevents me from sleeping, I'm not going to allow the snorer to sleep while keeping me awake. The fact that the snoring is unintentional does not mitigate the discomfort cause to others.
