It also contradicts what two people I know who filed claims with CIBC went through last year. In both cases, they were told they were required to have paid the YQ on their Aeroplan tickets with the CIBC card and that fact was verified before the claim was processed.
So, did you actually file a successful claim? Or did you just speak to someone who may not have known the correct information?
I have not filed a successful claim (or any claim for that matter); however, the individuals I have spoken to are licensed adjusters who are responsible for processing such claims. Their information (name and extension numbers) have been recorded and I did inform them that I was doing so.
They are 100% sure that you do not have to charge YQ/taxes and such onto the cards in question to take advantage of said insurance.
