Don't think twice about the check in, though it won't hurt to turn on the charm and ask "do you mind if we all check in together?".
For the boarding it might be an idea to flag the situation with gate staff before boarding starts, and get their OK: just to avoid discussion and/or embarrassment in the unlikely event a jobsworth is on duty.
