And you make it sound like I'm expecting them to work for free. I'm not, and I have never said so.
I don't make it sound like you're expecting them to work for free, I made it sound like you expect them to work for nothing additional, which you've stated a number of times. Management is offering a 50% bonus to work the time, I'm trying to understand why you seem to have such a problem with that.
You can say that the pilots shrugging their shoulders is a terrible attitude and absolutely repulsive all you want. A lot of us seem to disagree with you. For many of us work isn't the first and only thing. Luckily many (most?) companies understand that. I'm away from home as much as most pilots are (I think). If I told my company that I wanted some time off and they agreed, and then after that they tried to come back and ask me to work anyway, I'd more than likely tell them no. Especially without them giving me something extra in return. And even then probably not if I had plans made already. I have a good relationship with my company, so I'd certainly do what I could, but wouldn't break a planned vacation. And based on the response thus far (a couple hundred flights remain unfilled), that appears to be exactly what the pilots have done.
