From what I've seen in my company and my family, those who obtained numbers before the merger got 2+6. Those right after the merger got 3+5. However, earlier this year, I signed my young daughters up and they both got 2+6 as well. So I don't think there is actually any rhyme or reason to it.
All very interesting! I was obviously wrong about 2+6, but that's because I've never met another MP member who didn't have 3+5!
My UA MP # (which I can still remember), dating from Jan 1991, was converted at the time of the Great Merge, as was Mrs 1P's. They allowed me to keep my old password, though!
