B6 Code Share Flights

Wondering if any folks have experience with B6 code-share flights, specifically with HAL. Is it better to purchase a flight from say Boston to Honolulu in pieces - Boston to LAX via B6 and then LAX to Honolulu from the HAL site, or better to purchase it code-shared from B6? I travel light so don't plan on checking luggage, so the advantage of having a checked bag going all the way to the destination isn't that important. On the other hand, I would like to be able to choose my seat, and on the B6 site it appears that I can't choose a seat for the code-shared HAL portion... and that I'd have to wait until the day of the flight to get one assigned, at which point the nicer seats may be gone. Also, as a Mosaic, I wonder if I end up wanting to make a change - would my benefits in terms of being able to cancel the flight or make a same-day change 24 hours in advance without a fee still apply to the Hawaiian part? And finally, is a layover of one hour between flights in LAS/LAX and HNL sufficient? It looks like B6 and HAL share the same terminal at both airports (T3 in LAS and T5 in LAX). Thanks for any insights.
