Shoulder belts are required on all forward facing premium cabin seats on AA's 787-8/-9. Also, on both aircraft, aisle arm rests must be down for taxi take off and landing. This is part of the FAA certification for the aircraft.

AA 1156 on 11/26 was a 787-9 which has what is largely considered the best premium cabin seat in the AA fleet, not sure what your problem was.
