Even though upper air data for the Pacific Ocean is pretty sparse, analyses from when the aircraft was off the coast of Japan indicate it was flying through jet stream winds of >90 m/s (>200 mph, >320 km/h). Given the normal cruise speed of a 787, a true ground speed in the mid 700s (mph) seems likely, which is what FlightAware shows for part of the journey.
Pineapple Express comes early. Usually see those high speeds going east in Jan thru March. Makes for a nice quiet ride with the engines thottled back. Don't wait up for the sonic boom though.
