The question is if there's a good price now and whether or not you can expect some kind of sale between today and departure date. Factor in demand (Is it a popular destination at that time of year? Will it be too hot/cold/rainy? Is it a route that has constant demand like New-York to London?), compare it to prices in X days/weeks/months possible school vacations (Good load factors may reduce discounted ticket availability) on both ends and you make a pretty good forecast.
