It's not hard to check all UA TPACs at once for a given day using expert mode. If you search, for example, SFO-HKG, .com will show all the UA TPACs with connections on various *A partners onward to HKG. So one search returns all UA flights for a particular day.
I would estimate that I=0 R>0 occurs easily at least 75% of the time. So if you rely on an I alert for R, you're missing out on open upgrade space at least three-quarters of the time. If you're satisfied with that, great
