"dynamic" mixed cabin award pricing - thoughts?

So this is JUST FOR EXAMPLE PURPOSES but helps to explain the context for my question. Again, this is JUST an example. So I'm looking to travel o/w from BWI-MSP-STL in the next 30 days. I currently see o/w in Y for 11,000 miles and o/w in F for 25,000 miles. I want to do a mixed cabin so I'm in F for BWI-MSP and then Y for MSP-STL. When I called Delta I've been quoted FOUR different redemption's at four different mileage levels but the last rep basically explained that it's gonna be about 36,000 miles b/c the system sees this as two, o/w awards: one at 25,000 miles and the 2nd leg at 11,000 miles. It's kinda crazy that the mixed cabin would be more than the o/w for F all the way thru(at 25,000 miles) but that seems to be the way the computer system prices this. Have others had the same response/reality?? would love any thoughts and I'm ONLY asking about this routing, I know I can do BWI-ATL-STL or BWI-DTW-STL, etc. Thanks, as always, for any helpful replies. Happy post-TG travels.
