Help - lapinfant ticketing failed after upgrade & had to pay 4x as much at check in!
Hi all,
i had a domestic flight to florida which i cancelled due to harvey and still had the credit to use. I needed an international (but within space of complimentary upgrades) trip so i called to use the flight for this and as it was an international journey needed a ticket for my lap infant. I thought id booked and paid for myself and my daughter, but upon check in at ohare yesterday, it appeared that ticketing for my daughter had failled (id tried to use a travel certificate which the phone agent said was ok but then it failled in the back office). my original ticket was class T, $220ish ticket and therefore the infsnt fare was about $45.
I am UA *G and was given a complimentary upgrade for both legs 48 hourd before each flight. When they needed to reissue the ticket for the baby at the airport, they said that they would need to ticket herin business and therefore i had tp pay $180 at check in. I tried arguing this and saying that she would get a comp upgrade too but couldnt get it through to the agent and she insisted that if it would havebeen done normally i would still be asked for additional fare at check in. In the end, i was so hungry, wanted to make the flight, so just paid and asked the agent to add a note to the booking to say i wasnt happy and would ask united for the difference back. Before i chase united for this, do any premier members have experience of getting comp upgrades with a lap infant? If so were you asked for additional fare for them at check in?
i know some of you will say there should be no babies in first/business and i was lucky to get upgraded and $120 isnt a bad price to pay but i think the way ive been treated here is inconsistent and therefore would appreciate views on the fare aspects of this!
thanks
