You could have got a $30,000 bottle of Chateau Petrus for $50 if you'd just bought it en primeur 60 years ago and stored it. On the positive side, I'm always very aware of this effect as my Gentleman's Club in London does exactly this kind of thing and sells at prices related to cost rather than value.
a few months ago i saw a vertical gift set. 4 for under 3k. Yes, you can get this vintage in store this year. I'm not talking about a 60yo Chateau Petrus. I'm talking about mass produced 1st grand cru. They are making like 10k cases of these wines. Not that rare.
