The location is nice, but it is on the outskirts of "town". Also, lack of access to the MRT is a bit of a bother especially since it's the rainy season and it pours every day for a few hours. Having said that you must realise that anything more than 5 mins is considered "far" in SIN :P... so it really isn't that far from anywhere especially with Uber.
At night the 15 minute walk to the newly opened Fort Canning MRT station is very pleasant although less so if raining or during the day. The walk to Chinatown MRT is a similar length but not as pleasant. Nearby Robertson Quay has many nice international restaurants/bars but not a lot to appeal to tourists.
