The SPG promo only offers double credit (2x Starpoints) plus an extra 1K points and I believe it's a one-time offer.
I was initially going to stay at the Westin exclusively to earn more SPG points in order to transfer out to Marriott at 3x value but w/ this more enticing free night promo by Marriott, I'm going to switch it up to take advantage of both offers. So 3 hotels total.
I just want to better understand how the free night is awarded based on category and tier in order to determine which properties to book. What if my stays include a category 7 and 8 hotel; which would the free night award reflect? Is the free night awarded in the form of a voucher or points and does it matter what category/tier of property we stay at?
You will get 1 Free night certificate good at a Marriott Brand Category 1-5 hotel that expires in 6 months. You will earn it after 2 stays at any Marriott brand hotel regardless of category.
After receiving certificate in your account, make your reservation using the reward points option at any Marriott brand category 1-5 hotel, and the certificate will be applied. You can also call reservations and ask them to apply the certificate.
Hardest part is finding a hotel within the 1-5 category. Enjoy.
