I was there about a month ago. I thought it was a good solid hotel, perhaps slightly dated in feel (compared to the much newer Novotel in Melaka) but extremely well maintained. I stayed in a Cub room and thought the Club lounge was excellent.
Remember though that this is an HI, not an IC, so expect 4 star rather than 5 star standard.
The upgrade options are limited - generally from city view to sea view. Actually I prefer the city view!
If you are doing a paid stay I would just pay the Club rate as rates there are really very low. I do not know what the upsell would be.
