Didn't DL rename First to DeltaOne? Same food just in a renamed cabin. There are only two options: the aforementioned onion sandwich (sometimes with a single slice of squash and/or lettuce if you're lucky) OR the brown/tan mush. Never anything else.

I can almost guarantee that you are not getting these in Delta One, the service standards are just too high. As above poster indicated:

First Class: This is the domestic premium product. It's the cabin in the front of the plane on the vast majority of US domestic routes. the seats are a few inches wider and have more leg room, and there is food and bar service.

Delta One: This is the international premium product. This offers flat bed seats, elaborate multi-course meals, top shelf liquor, fine wine, West premium bedding, etc.

Delta tends to treat most domestic first class as something like an enhanced/premium economy service. It's gotten better in recent years, but it's still not (nor has it been in many, many years) a truly "first class" service. They don't spend a lot on food, and the specials meals in particular can really be not great.

I hope you have the chance to fly Delta One at some point, as I'm most certain that the vegan meal would be of a higher quality. It may not be amazing, but they won't give you an onion sandwich.

One thing to try: Consider ordering the again vegetarian meal. these are often vegan (though you can't be certain), and they are usually better.
