First, has anyone had a different experience and or ability to change to another Citicard and keep their AA miles?

Secondly, what's the best use of AA miles if I don't have any upcoming trip plans? Looked into exchanging it to gift cards, but looks like I will be getting $400-$450 in Target gift cards, for example, and it doesn't look like a good deal.

Any help is highly appreciated.
What were the conditions when you applied for the card? I've had multiple cards that I've cancelled when the annual fee came due and never was told I'd lose miles. You can keep your AA account active through a number of inexpensive ways that are described in other threads.
