When in African countries with poor Internet quality, I've found that AA often doesn't recognize my caller ID when using Skype, regardless of which number I call. Most of the time the AA system will not recognize Skype-generated touch tones either. If Internet is slightly better, I use a VPN that terminates in the US, so that AA's system thinks I am in the US. That usually improves things overall.
