I have some Alaska miles but don't think I'll be using them myself but would like to use them for award travel for others (wedding next year!)

I went to book award travel on Alaskaair.com and noticed that American has some really good point redemption rates (as a partner airline). When I tried to complete the reservation, the webpage told me to contact AA directly to make my reward reservation. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to redeem these Alaska miles on AA, despite combing both sites. Alaska doesn't have the flights I want, not to mention sky-high redemption rates, and I'd love to be able to redeem them for AA flights.

Is there a simple way to go about this? Or do I need to call AA reservations?
