As sad as it sounds, I do agree with you in terms of the balls up!
One only has to look at the current boarding system, which was supposedly upgraded last year - and the fact that the gate staff rarely implement it!

On Long haul
Group 1 will be Gold/Emerald/First.
Group 2 will be Silver/Sapphire/Club.
Group 3 will be Bronze/Ruby/Premium Economy.
Groups 4 and 5 will be economy.
On Short haul
Group 1 will be Gold/Emerald/Club Europe.

Shame there is no separate group for GGL, per CK on AA, but hey ho.
