this used to be the property i always stayed in when in mumbai but after a number of problems i switched over all my mumbai stays to either the westin or the st. regis, depending on where in the city i needed to be....
earlier this month i had to travel to mumbai at the last minute & both the westin & st. regis had no availability so i booked a room here....i made the reservation at 8pm & called the property an hour later from the airport to inform them that i would be checking in around 2am as i didn't want them to consider me a no-show....they said they did not have my reservation on file & the hotel was now sold out....they couldn't see my reservation when they put in either my last name or spg reservation number but the agent said that sometimes it takes a few hours for the reservation to show up so she would inform the front desk that i would be checking in late....i felt the stay was already off to a bad start so i called the ambassador line to make sure they don't walk me when i got there at 2am....since it was off duty for my ambassador, i spoke with another member of the ambassador team & they assured me the reservation was confirmed & they would inform the property that i would be checking in late....
my flight was a little delayed so by the time i made it to the hotel it was almost 3am....this is where things took a turn for the better....the agent checking me in verified my details & then called someone over the phone to inform them that i had arrived....the night duty manager then came out to greet me....we spoke for a few minutes while the agent checked me in & the manager was aware of my past stays at the property....he pointed out that i had not returned to the hotel in a while & i gave him the reasons why....he said they were happy i was back & assured me better service going forward....then he escorted me over to the elevators & gave me his card in case i needed anything....
i had booked a deluxe room & as usual i wasn't expecting an upgrade but when i got off the elevator on the 29th floor i realised i was on the same floor as the presidential suite....this floor only has 4 rooms & my room had been upgraded to the catherine de braganza suite which is the 2nd best suite they have after the presidential suite....the suite was massive....it had a master bedroom, 2 bathrooms, living room, formal dining room, huge walk in closet, bar area, etc....
the next morning i met my client for breakfast & the food quality & choices were very good....after breakfast we were planning on having a meeting at the lounge on the 30th floor as we were expecting a couple more people but just decided to use my suite instead....we ordered lunch in the suite as well & the service was once again very good....
around noon i got a call asking me what time i would be checking out & i told them my flight was later at night so i would definitely need the room till 4pm....the agent informed me that was not a problem & if i needed the room for a few more hours then she could extend that to 6pm as well....i checked out at 4pm since there was other work i needed to attend to before heading to the airport but i was really impressed with the service & attitude of this hotel....it had definitely been well over a year since i stayed here last but based on this last stay i am definitely going to give this property another chance....
this was my 499th night at a starwood property....just one more night to go for lifetime plat status....attached are a few pictures of the suite....
