I'll be flying to SFO for the holidays and want to drive down to LA and fly out of LAX when my trip is over. One way rental from SFO to LAX for the duration is about $250-300 more before taxes and fees then round trip. To compare it would be cheaper to just fly from SFO to LAX for $40 a ticket. Changing from an airport to a neighborhood location usually has a radius involved to not change the price or become a one-way rental.

Part of the price discrepancy between RT and OW is if unlimited mileage is included. For example, I picked a random day in December using Costco Travel, which includes mileage, and it was $193/day SFO-LAX. My corporate rate of $32/day does not include mileage and bills $0.25/mi. Check your AWD terms.
