Airasia has really cheap fares from JB (JHB) to Bangkok (BKK), Jakarta (CGK), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), and Penang (PEN). So flying Airasia is a really cheap alternative to using SQ, MH, or the full-fare carriers.

However the challenge is getting from Singapore to JB and then to the JB airport (JHB, which is 28 km away) itself. Airasia has good directions on its website (http://www.airasia.com/english.php?f=service&p=senai).

There's a brand-new service (as of June '04) that uses the City Lounge in Johor Bahru itself. (http://www.senaiairport.com.my/city_lounge.html)
