That depends, assuming no inventory available, within 24hrs of dept and I can see where I am on the upgrade list, if 6 are open and I'm close to the top, I wouldn't bother; conversely, if 20hrs before I'm number 10 for 6, then I have it applied to see where it puts me on the list
In my case, I often wait until 24-48 hrs out as I routinely change travel destinations at the last minute.
