My late grandmother was a huge fan of the AMS trolleys, which are readily available everywhere:



It gave her confidence and was hugely practical, I wish more airports had them. AMS, however, is pretty awful for the long distances involved.

Accidental Scientist, do you have a photo or link (Amazon?) for your bag, it's not the tartan trolley bags used by Old Dears down Tesco is it? I'm sure it will be fine, BA has to check in all sorts of things these days. On some recent LCC flights I've done to destinations popular with older travellers, this sort of bag seems popular, the wide handle being handy for support, but with the right size it can go HBO.
