The fare is divided up on a segment-by-segment basis. So if the CLE-JFK-CDG return ticket cost $1000, you might see $100 for the CLE-JFK leg, $400 for JFK-CDG, $400 for CDG-JFK, and $100 for JFK-CLE. If you skipped the last leg, your milage would be calculated on $900.
