yep same reasons here! and indeed, I have been on the receiving end of the weather nightmare and have had to spend an unexpected extra night in DC more than once which is in fact the massive downside of my DCA preference strategy (if flying BA from IAD, they would have needed to pay accommodation because of EC261. By contrast, in case of bad weather, AA will at best give you recommendations on what is the best bridge to sleep under.)
