ScottC, the problem here in the US is that AT&T refuses to unlock a phone, even after your contract is up. I'd be happy to see this lawsuit go through, just becuase AT&T continue to be jerks about this. Cingular / T-Mobile have no problem doing this after your contract is up (and sometimes before).
Anyway, it's not like it's a problem to get a phone unlocked. Finding the program that will spit out unlock codes for most Nokia's isn't that hard, and Sony-Ericsson just requires a cable and the program. Or, most big cities have people who will do this and firmware flashes for $20.
