QantasLink to Hamilton Island - experiences re: reliability?
Hi all,
I am heading to Hamilton Island from the U.S. in August for my honeymoon. I'm trying to figure out what would happen to us in the event of a QantasLink cancellation, and whether or not I'd be more comfortable booking VA's 737 service to be safe(r).
I've booked us on a QantasLink (QF2824) flight from Brisbane to Hamilton Island (using Avios), and have arranged for us to arrive in Brisbane a day earlier so we can overnight/adjust, and to reduce the risk of missing the connection to the island. Our tickets to Brisbane, and our onward tickets from HTI are all separate - so no risk of cancellation due to no-showing on this one flight.
I've read, and observed from spot-checking, that QantasLink Dash-8 services can be cancelled with some regularity. It doesn't appear that Qantas offers an evening service from any city to HTI, so what would happen in the event of a cancellation - would we be looking at a 24 hour delay in getting to HTI?
Would appreciate any insight/first-hand experience with this route or a similar QantasLink situation. I am generally willing to hope for the best, but am feeling more risk-averse on this trip.
