I suspect most airlines will have limited desirable seats available for long haul flights a week before departure - and award space is always tight on transcons, especially during the holidays. And I don’t think it’s worth spending thousands of dollars to fly any airline over another - you’d be hard pressed to recoup that value through any loyalty program.
