My impression is that while the rules are technically the same as ours the enforcement isn't--we had some relatives here who lost a bit of food at security when going home. My wife had warned them that the jar wasn't going to fly (IIRC mustard) and they didn't believe it because it would have gotten through in China.

One difference, though--they do not like flammable liquids, period. Note that that includes high-proof booze.
