Surpass offer not recorded in my account???

Hi all, I can't tell if this has happened to anyone else. In July, I upgraded to the Surpass card for a 50,000 bonus and Gold status. I easily met the spending, and didn't worry about the status as I'm Diamond now. But I have been waiting for the bonus points to show up as I have some leisure travel with husband planned soon.
Finally called today. Amex said they have no record of the offer in my account and that it shows I just upgraded for nothing. What????? I wouldn't have changed my no-fee card to a fee card without a good reason.
They said they are "opening a case" but I don't know what to expect. I'm bummed, to put it mildly

Has this happened to anyone else? What was the result? Any advice, besides going back to my no-fee card and hoping for another offer in the future?
