Just finishing a split stay, in an Opera Premium room for one night and Grand Luxury in the historical wing for two more. No upgrades either time as Platinum, but for the first night they had very limited availability (that night was added at the last minute and they did not have the Grand Luxury available), but otherwise I got all the benefits I cared about -- welcome drink, club access.
I know there are different opinions here but I had a very strong preference for the Grand Luxury room over the Opera Premium. Some of the reasons included:
- Much more spacious; the Opera Premium room was relatively cramped for two people.
- Separate stall shower vs. combined tub/shower
- Nespresso machine vs. instant coffee
- More interesting architecture/history in the Grand Luxury room
I would pay a significant premium for Grand Luxury over Premium, and that's rare for me. At most hotels I book the cheapest room and hope for an upgrade.
Overall, I think this is one of the best Sofitel properties, up there with St. James in London, if not surpassing it.
