I checked a 27" Apple Thunderbolt monitor.

It was packed in the original box and I found a company that custom makes canvas bags. I had one made (about $75) to fit the dimensions and packed a few blankets around the retail box. It survived perfectly the trip PRG-AMS-SLC-RNO. I have since used this same bag to transport it to trade shows as well.
