I also cannot adopt the brace position on BA short-haul flights. I can on Easyjet, however. I talked to BA about this and they don't seem to care.
Quite a few people, including me, have raised this matter with the regulator - but seeing as they're (more or less) toothless I don't expect anything to be done. For BA profit seems more important than passenger safety.
